Young Children Priority One (YCPO)

This is an ongoing community service program of Kiwanis International that addresses the needs of children age 0–5. All clubs are encouraged to carry out at least two YCPO projects per calendar year, though many clubs are able to do more—serving children, families and communities.

The Kiwanis Club of Independence holds an annual activity in support of C.A.P.A. (Child Abuse Prevention Association).  For 2014 it is Saturday May 10th at the HyVee in Independence on 23rd street.  We encourage shoppers to purchase something for babies at C.A.P.A.  Visit us there beginning at 9:00am until 3:00pm!

Young Children Priority One focuses on four key areas:

  • maternal and child health
  • child care and development
  • parent education and support
  • safety and pediatric trauma
